Fire TV Stick remote app for iPhone: setup and fixes
An iPhone can control an Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick over Wi‑Fi. Put the iPhone on the same network, open a remote app such as Remo or Amazon's Fire TV app, pick the Fire TV and type the 4‑digit PIN it shows on screen. If no PIN appears, restart the Fire TV. If the stick isn't on your Wi‑Fi, the phone can't reach it; your TV's own remote (via HDMI‑CEC) or a replacement remote gets it back online.
How an iPhone controls a Fire TV Stick
The Fire TV remote uses Bluetooth and infrared, and iPhone can't imitate either. Instead, Fire TV devices accept commands over your home network from phone apps. That means the Fire TV and your iPhone must be on the same Wi‑Fi network.
Pair your iPhone with the Fire TV
- Switch on the TV and make sure the Fire TV home screen is showing.
- Connect your iPhone to the same Wi‑Fi as the Fire TV.
- Open Remo, allow Local Network access and tap your Fire TV in the list.
- A 4‑digit PIN appears on the TV. Type it in the app.
You only pair once. The app keeps the Fire TV in its list and reconnects automatically.
No PIN on the screen?
- Restart the Fire TV: Settings › My Fire TV › Restart, or unplug the power for a few seconds.
- Check that the Fire TV and iPhone are on the same network, not a guest network or a Wi‑Fi extender that keeps devices apart.
- Make sure the Fire TV is awake on the home screen, not showing a screensaver in deep sleep.
- If the Fire TV doesn't appear in the list, add it by IP address. You'll find it under Settings › My Fire TV › About › Network.
Lost the remote and the stick is offline?
If the Fire TV Stick can't join your Wi‑Fi (for example after a router change), a phone app can't reach it. Options:
- Use your TV's remote. Many TVs support HDMI‑CEC, which lets the TV's own remote move around Fire TV menus. It may be called Anynet+, SimpLink, Bravia Sync or similar in the TV's settings.
- Get a replacement Fire TV remote and pair it by holding the Home button for about 10 seconds.
- Use the old Wi‑Fi name and password. If you only changed routers, temporarily giving the new network the old name and password lets the stick reconnect on its own.
Typing and other extras
Typing searches with an on-screen keyboard is slow. With a phone app, open the search box on the Fire TV and type with your iPhone keyboard instead. Remo also has a touchpad, media controls, and widgets for the Home Screen, Lock Screen and Control Center, and it can control your other TVs too, whether they're Samsung, LG, Roku or Google TV.
Use your iPhone as a Fire TV Stick remote
- Join the same Wi‑Fi. Connect your iPhone to the Wi‑Fi network the Fire TV Stick uses.
- Open the remote app. Open Remo and allow Local Network access.
- Select your Fire TV. Tap your Fire TV in the list of devices found.
- Enter the PIN. Type the 4‑digit PIN shown on the TV. If none appears, restart the Fire TV and try again.
Questions and answers
Can I use my iPhone as a Fire TV Stick remote without Wi‑Fi?
No. The iPhone reaches the Fire TV over your local network, so both need to be on the same Wi‑Fi.
Why doesn't my Fire TV show a PIN?
Restart the Fire TV from Settings › My Fire TV › Restart (or unplug it briefly), make sure it's on the home screen and on the same network as your iPhone, then connect again.
Can I type on Fire TV from my iPhone?
Yes. Open a search or text field on the Fire TV, then type with the iPhone keyboard in the remote app.
Does it work with Fire TV Cube and Fire TV smart TVs?
Remo is made for Amazon Fire TV devices and Fire TV Stick. If your device appears in the list and shows a PIN, it can be controlled the same way.
Can the iPhone turn the Fire TV on?
A Fire TV in deep sleep may not respond over the network. If it doesn't, wake it with the TV's remote or power button first.
